Extractions
Have your teeth recently suffered some damage or trauma? Unbeknownst to some individuals, keeping fractured teeth in the mouth can put neighboring teeth at risk for disease. Although tooth extraction is often a last resort, in some cases it’s better to have damaged teeth removed in order to help conserve dental health.
Bone Grafting & Sinus Lift
Bone grafts and sinus lifts are procedures that are performed when a patient is in need of a reconstructive treatment. These procedures help strengthen and prepare the jaw and gums for treatments such as dental implants. Often referred to as supplementary treatments, these procedure can help increase a person’s chances of successful reconstructive treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is considered oral surgery?
Oral surgery includes dental procedures that cut into the tissues in your mouth, for example, your gums or jawbone. We offer wisdom teeth extractions, bone grafting, and sinus lifts to our patients who need oral surgery.
When you visit for your consultation, Drs. Seth and Zack Larson can determine whether or not you may need oral surgery.
How long does it take to recover from oral surgery?
The recovery period for oral surgery is relatively quick, but this may also depend on which procedure you receive. It’s a good rule of thumb to expect at least two days of rest and recovery before returning to a normal schedule.
It’s also important to know that although your recovery may be fast, the healing of the surgical area may take a bit longer. After your oral surgery, our team will provide you with a more accurate time frame on when you’ll likely be fully healed.
What should I avoid after oral surgery?
After oral surgery, there are certain activities and foods you should avoid to help make your healing process go smoothly. These things include:
- Avoid exercise within two to three days post-surgery
- Don’t eat any hot or hard foods. Instead, follow a soft food or liquid diet
- Resist from smoking and don’t consume alcohol
- Don’t use a straw to drink liquids
If you’re ever unsure whether or not you should do something, it’s always best to give our Prescott Valley office a quick call. We’re more than happy to help!
Does insurance cover oral surgery?
Generally, most dental insurance providers will cover oral surgery, especially tooth extractions. Some providers however only cover a portion of the costs, so it’s best to talk with your insurance before moving forward with treatment.
If you don’t have insurance, we work with a third-party financial company that works as a line of credit. You can receive oral surgery through CareCredit and pay for your treatment down the line.
